Jessica Simpson Reemerges at People's Choice Awards
January 11, 2006

Despite her recent split from Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson flashed her dazzling smile both onstage and off at Tuesday night's People's Choice Awards.

Backstage, Jessica revealed she's doing okay, and working to get through this difficult time. "I have a lot of amazing people who surround me and fans who let me know it's not all over," she said.

And what about Papa Joe? "He really just supports my decision," Simpson told us. "As a dad, whether he agrees or disagrees, he's still going to love me no matter what."

Jessica also revealed how nervous she was to get back out on stage and begin life without Nick. "Oh my gosh, I was so nervous," she admitted. "I was about to throw up. But this is for the people, you know. They're the ones who have supported me and gotten me to where I'm at in my life, and no matter what, they deserve anything I can give because they give me everything."

But not everyone in the room felt like loving on Jessica Tuesday night. When George Lopez took center stage to present Favorite Female Movie Star, he quipped: "The producers wanted me to apologize to Nick Lachey for not being here tonight, but we had enough seat fillers."

An uneasy laugh drifted across the room, as cameras panned to a very un-amused Jessica.

Backstage, Sandra Bullock revealed why she tied the knot with Jesse James. "His money," she said. "He has a lot of money. And I thought since he's so rich I could probably start doing independent films, and 'Crash' was the first one."

Also all smiles behind the scenes was Sandra's ex, Matthew McConaughey. He took home honors for Favorite Male Action Star, but celebrated without current squeeze PenÚlope Cruz. "She's got a premiere in Paris," McConaughey said. "But we're both having a great night."

Beauty Nicollette Sheridan went home without an award, but she didn't go home empty handed. The superstar has been all grins since crooner Michael Bolton came back into her life.

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres picked up awards for Daytime TV Show Host and Funny Female Star, while Reese Witherspoon and Brad Pitt were named top Leading Lady and Leading Man.
