Preparing for the Wedding of the Century
January 20, 2005

As of Saturday evening, Donald Trump will be the billionaire bachelor no more, and "Extra" is in Palm Beach, Florida, for the big event, where our Dayna Devon will be one of the guests.

Donald and Melania's wedding will be a family affair, with the bride's sister serving as the maid of honor and Trump's sons, Donald Jr., and Eric, as his best men. Contrary to previous rumors, Trump's ex-wives, Ivana and Marla, were not invited, but Heidi Klum, Billy Joel, Tony Bennett, Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, Kelly Ripa, Simon Cowell and girlfriend Terri Seymour are among the famous invites who've told us they'll be there.

"I'm just nervous," Ripa told us. "I don't want to break anything or get caught stealing the centerpiece as I've been known to do."

The 500 guests will gather at the 100-year-old Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach. The ceremony is set to begin at 7 p.m., and no cameras or cell phones will be allowed.

Then the party moves to Mar-a-Lago, the Trump estate that's so big you need a helicopter to see it all, where the final preparations are still underway. The reception will take place in Mar-a-Lago's new $40 million ballroom, which opened on New Year's Eve.

Vogue magazine, out this week with exclusive photos of Melania in her reported $200,000 Dior wedding gown, also has a shot of the spectacular floral arrangements by famed wedding planner Preston Bailey.

"She has elegant taste, really elegant," Bailey revealed of Trump's bride.

Bandleader Michael Rose will head the orchestra that will play everything from baroque to big band, and he revealed that the first dance will be to a Puccini Aria. Later in the evening, a DJ will take over so The Donald can disco. "I think both Donald and Melania dance reasonable well," Rose told us.

The million-dollar menu includes steamed shrimp salad with champagne vinaigrette, roasted tenderloin of beef with a green peppercorn sauce, and it's all topped off with a seven-tier, 200-pound wedding cake.

As for the honeymoon, Trump told us, "We're in Palm Beach, so we're going to leave it at that for now. And I think we're going to keep the honeymoon stuff secret."
