Alternative Medicine
Monday June 25, 2001

Sometimes the best medicine for what ails you may be no medicine at all. There is a new breed of healers that claim they can treat everything from carpal tunnel to cancer.

Severe asthma attacks landed Carol Densmore in the hospital. But then she started coming to Patricia Walden's therapeutic yoga class. Patricia says, "No matter what your physical challenges are, no matter what your diseases, you can benefit from yoga."

Each person that comes to Patricia's classes gets a specific series of poses that helps them deal with their medical problem. Juliet Blackett has multiple sclerosis. She says Patricia's classes helped her regain some control of her body.

She says, "At least I know I have some method of dealing with this that I didn't know I had five years ago."

But if you don't see yourself doing this, maybe you should try applied kinesiology.

"Most of the problems of the body are due to muscle imbalances," says Dr. Goodheart. He is famous for his good hands. He uses them to find weaknesses in the muscles then he manipulates and realigns them.

Robert Gladstone plays bass for the Detroit Symphony. He suffered from extreme carpal tunnel syndrome. Amazingly, Dr. Goodheart manipulated muscles in his chest, shoulder blade, and between his ribs to fix the problem in his hand. And after a few weeks of wearing a brace, Robert was back and better than ever.

Robert says, "It was the first time in months that I had been able to practice without pain. So for me it was like he saved my career."
