1.) In today's society, women play prominent roles in business, politics, education, sports, entertainment, and the arts. What are the two primary contributions pageants make for today's women?
I believe that pageants primarily provide a vehicle for women to express their ideas about issues that are important to them. Additionally, I believe pageants provide an outlet for women to pursue goals related to career, image, and physical and mental health.
2.) What is the single, most important message a titleholder can convey?
Transmitting the "universal values" (fairness, loyalty, integrity, pursuit of excellence, caring, honesty, accountability, respect, trustworthiness) wherever the title leads you is the key message above anything else that you speak.
3.) Are you currently attending school or involved in any educational studies? If so, what are you studying? Where? What are your eventual goals?
I completed my Master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education in June of 2000 at Ohio State University. I am in my fourth year of teaching highschool FCS and attend professional development seminars weekly. I plan to take courses within the next two years that will contribute to my goal of obtaining a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy.
4.) Are you currently employed? If so, what is your occupation?
Yes, as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher with the Dublin City Schools.
5.) Name one personal accomplishment (in addition to being a state titleholder) that makes you especially proud.
Obtaining a Master's degree in two years while I continued teaching at the high school level and the college level.
6.) What have you learned about yourself during the past year?
1) The depth at which I am willing to stand up for my career and the importance of family life education.
2) I have learned that my aspirations really are my possibilities.
7.)What is the most daring or adventurous thing you have done?
I went whitewater rafting this past summer.
8.) Describe what you think the role of women will be in the 21st century.
I think that a woman's role will be to finally eliminate the glass ceiling and to achieve pay equality. I also think women will continue to pay the role of dual breadwinner, wife and possibly, mother.
9) What charity/charities have you supported with your time and/or resources in the past?
Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) advisor; Faith Mission-homeless shelter; Mid-Ohio Food Bank; serve in Emmaus and Chrysalis communities; 3 year elementary church camp counselor.
10.) What expression/slogan/motto best describes your view of life?
The things you do everyday should contribute to giving your life meaning. If it doesn't, why are you doing it?
11.) What is your most treasured possession?
I treasure the intangible possession of relationships with my family and friends.
