Carré Otis
Friday August 10, 2001

She burst onto the scene in the steamy thriller “Wild Orchid.” But for the past six years model Carre Otis has been through ugly times. She quit the runway, left her turbulent marriage to Mickey Rourke, and struggled to kick a deadly addiction to heroin. Now Otis is back, bigger and better!

She says, “I never thought I’d be 32, a size 12, and really happy and sober and single and really happy with it all.”

This former cover girl proudly reveals her new plus size body in the September issue of Mode magazine. Otis says she doesn't miss being a size two. She says, “I’ve been on a diet for 17 years. My whole life has been about fitting into a size. You reach an age where it just doesn’t work. My body was saying, ‘we’re not going to have any more of this, enough!’”

Otis tells mode that while she and ex-husband Rourke have found peace and today enjoy a close friendship, they are not getting back together. One part of her old life she does miss is work. She says, “So I called my agent. I was going to see what happened and be what I call a normal size for the average woman, and we were going to see if we could work that way.”

And she has been working that way, gracing the covers of numerous magazines and recently doing a seven-page spread in Oprah Winfrey's O magazine. It looks like this model citizen is doing just fine even though she’s left the wild side behind.
