Sharon Stone, Farrah Fawcett, Nancy Sinatra, and most recently Belinda Carlisle; big stars eagerly baring their bods for playboy. Hugh Hefner says, "Often I think what one has is a moment of opportunity related to a person's career. It may be a movie they want to promote or a career that needs to be jumpstarted."

Hugh Hefner’s keen instincts have been working wonders for decades, as early as 1953, when he picked sex kitten Marilyn Monroe as his very first centerfold. He says, "At the moment in which the issue came out, she was in a certain sense the hottest star in Hollywood."
In the sixties, sexy Ursula Andress struck a pose following her bond girl fame. Hef says, "Overnight her asking price for roles in films doubled and tripled."
And Sharon Stone struck while the iron was hot, after "Basic Instinct," with a very hot layout. Hugh says, "She combined a pictorial in Playboy at the very moment she had a couple of very choice roles. And indeed, almost overnight, it made her a star."
Ditto for future "Baywatch" babes Carmen Electra, Traci Bingham, and Pam Anderson, who posed a record nine times..
And before Guess girl Anna Nicole Smith was big, beautiful and broke, she was sexy, svelte and selling a lot of Playboys too.
But it's not just about publicity. Feeling fabulous over forty motivates middle-agers like Farrah Fawcett, Shari Belafonte, and rocker Belinda Carlisle to go nude on the newsstand. Belinda says, "More women who do this over 40 or a certain age, the better."
And these days a new reason to land a layout that would make Andy Warhol smile: fifteen minute-famers Darva Conger, TV’s devastated bride, and sexy "Survivor," Jerri are cashing in too.
So what kind of paycheck comes with posing? Not the millions you hear about. Hef claims it's more like two or three hundred thousand. But the publicity is well worth a million.
