Celebrity Justice Roundup
Monday July 30, 2001

A distraught Paula Poundstone arrived at a Santa Monica, California courthouse this morning for the latest hearing in her ongoing case. The comedienne brightened a bit at the turnout of supporters who don't believe the charges against her: three counts of committing a lewd act on her 12-year-old foster daughter and one count of child endangerment of her other foster and adopted children.

Today the judge postponed Poundstone’s court action until august 27th. Afterward, her attorney Steven Cron responded to a question: Was Poundstone using the drinking problem she's in treatment for as an excuse in this case?

He said, “Anytime someone abuses alcohol it clouds their judgement. I’m not going to discuss the facts of the case but that's a given.

After today's hearing Poundstone went back to the live in treatment center. Meantime alcohol also part of the story for another celebrity in the justice system today.

It was a polite Tommie Lee at a Malibu courthouse for a progress hearing after violating parole by drinking alcohol. Today, the judge praised Lee's good behavior since the incident and ruled the rock star does not have to undergo random drug and alcohol testing anymore. Lee will also donate an expensive drum set to charity as part of his community service.

And now a Celebrity Justice progress report on Robert Downey Jr. He continues in rehab in a Malibu home in a treatment program called Wavelengths International. It's run by Downey’s longtime friend and drug counselor Warren Boyd.

Downey has to wear an electronic monitor at all times, must be escorted if he leaves the property, as he did here with Sting’s wife Trudy Styler. He's subjected to random drug tests and is on formal probation. If he violates it, he could be back in state prison up to four years.
