Abercrombie & Fitch Summer Catalogue
Tuesday July 2, 2001

Abercrombie's at it again, causing fits with its hotter than this July’s catalogue. It's no wonder: the models have no clothes and the clothes have no models. Quite a difference from what the company's catalogue used to look like. This year’s version is definitely not your grandfather's Abercrombie and Fitch.

A&F’s Hampton Carney says, “We don't think it's racy at all, we think it’s just everyday college life."

But what college allows nubile nymphs to frolic in a fountain threadbare? And while these models paint the catalogue red hot, Carney says there's nothing wrong their catalogue. "We always think nudity is part of the college tradition."

But the catalogue that seems to have invented the term 'pushing the envelope' with its consistently controversial content, is seemingly saying once again: it's not what you're wearing, but what you're baring that counts. Let's count your vote and undress the issue.

This revealing approach to selling clothes has one state's Lt. Governor absolutely objecting to the Abercrombie style, recently calling for a boycott in Illinois. A&F says “hogwash.”

Carney says, "There's nothing pornographic about the A&F quarterly."

Abercrombie and Fitch does shrink-wrap its clothing catalogue and you're supposed to be at least 18 to unwrap one. Work of art? Or working the art of publicity? Whichever, A&F is dressed for mega-success.
