Marilyn Monroe's Last Film
Tuesday May 22, 2001

Only “Extra” has an exclusive look at the lost scenes of Marilyn Monroe's last performance on film. The camera exposing the tortured screen icon's struggle with her inner demons. The movie is "Something's Got To Give." It was filmed in 1962 co-starring Dean Martin.

Production was disrupted by Marilyn's frequent absences and never finished because of the actress' tragic death. Despite the inner turmoil, Marilyn never looked more beautiful and the footage includes the first nude scene of a major Hollywood star.

A reconstruction of the incomplete film, running 37 minutes, is featured in an AMC documentary "Marilyn Monroe: The Final Days" which also includes outtakes and interviews with co-stars including Cyd Charise. He says, "She wouldn’t come down if she didn’t feel she was ready for the scene"

Marilyn missed 17 of the first 30 days of shooting. Marilyn's personal physician, Heyman Engelberg, reveals for the first time on AMC that Monroe was manic-depressive.

Marilyn was actually fired from the film but came back to shoot the legendary nude swimming scene.

"We had a body suit for her where you looked nude in the water and after two or three takes she just tore if off and did with nothing else on," Marilyn Monroe.

Fans are sure to be intrigued by the lost footage and the new information about the star's final days. But people who love Marilyn will also feel a certain sadness about the movie that might have been.
