Jessica
struts, Jennifer strips, and Britney locks lips. Then
there's that quasi-nude quartet from Moulin Rouge. A
racy Mariah Carey in "Loverboy." Even the usually casual
Aaliyah is suddenly sheer in "Need a Resolution."
They're sexy music videos are putting the X on MTV and
VH1.

US
magazine's Eric Jackson says more than ever, skin
is in when it comes to promoting pop music. From
the belly baring in Janet Jackson's
"All For You" to that sexy strut in Ricky's "Loaded" and those
strip club scenes in Madonna's "Music."
Jackson says, "There's a zillion artists and they are competing
with cable TV, regular TV … skin sells."
Destiny's Child didn't dare go sexier than this for
their new video, "Bootylicious." They say, "We're very
aware that young kids are looking and listening to
our music."
But teen temptress Jessica Simpson says she's using
sex appeal to change her image. She says, "This time around I took things
a little sexier."
In "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" a
semi-nude Britney Spears engages in passionate kisses.
Not only did her mom demand some smoldering scenes
be cut, the Disney channel, a longtime promoter of
Britney, wouldn't air it.
But Jackson insists there's nothing more commercial
than a banned video. "If you tell people they can't
see it, they are going to kill to see it, and that
means they are going to run out and buy it."
Controversy clings to hip-hop artist Sisqo. His hot "Thong Song"
video was originally too hot for TV. And now he's back doing
what he does best in "Can I Live."
Seems Sisqo knows the golden rule of music videos:
a little sex appeal goes a long way. |
