The Living End
album: Roll On
As pugnacious as an Aussie footballer, The Living End has already conquered their home turf Down Under with an irresistible hybrid of classic punk and thoroughbred rock ‘n' roll. Now the band returns with Roll On, their new Reprise release. With fourteen high voltage tracks, The Living End fully lives up to their promise as predicted in Rolling Stone magazine, which said of the band's music, "This is rock & roll that's built to last."

Supervising construction are Melbourne natives Chris Cheney, Scott Owen and Travis Demsey. Though a rockabilly sensibility dominated their previous releases, Roll On incorporates much more, from ska to shuffling blues to raucous pub anthems. "A few years ago, the rockabilly label was appropriate," says lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Chris Cheney. "Now we've moved on. We hate to be pigeonholed, and since we don't know what direction we're headed, we don't see why anyone else should decide for us."

Produced by Nick Launay (Silverchair, Midnight Oil), Roll On, more than any previous recording, captures the purified frenzy of TLE. The album kicks off with the boisterous title track, a complex look at Australian working class life. From the agit-pop of "Pictures In The Mirror" to the stomping "Revolution Regained," Roll On ratchets up TLE's trademark fire and fury.

With Roll On already a smash at home, TLE has set its sights on the big bad world outside Australia. "The U.S. is a mystery," says Chris. "So big, so many, many people, so many bands... you wonder where to begin. But we like the challenge. We'll come over and play as much as we can." Adds Travis, "We might be on the road for the next three years, but maybe by then we'll be a true world-class international band."

There's little doubt the groundwork for that has already been laid. Now, The Living End need only get out there and do what they do best. "This is a 24/7 kind of commitment," admits Scott. "But we have a clear goal in mind: just make good music." With Roll On, they've already met that test. Now it's up to music lovers everywhere to roll with it.
