Holiday Getaways
The travel bug is biting, and many Americans want to go away for the holidays. In fact, 28 percent of Americans plan to travel this fall and into the holiday season. Travel and Leisure's Style Director Laura Beg-Lee shared with us the travel bible's top holiday hot spots
She says, "Honduras is just a beautiful undiscovered beach destination in the Caribbean." A rare find, Honduras is a warm winter wonderland with gorgeous beaches and a price tag that won't bust the holiday budget.
Beg-Lee says, "Plane tickets were still relatively inexpensive, and once you get there, it is still relatively inexpensive too."
Heading to Durango means sunny skiing, but don't expect to share a lift with Kevin Costner, this town is less Hollywood and more hardcore. Beg-Lee says, "It is really a great alternative to Aspen, and there is a great shop called Ofarrell that sells the best cowboy hats around."
Venice, the city of canals also masquerades as the perfect prelude to New Year’s Eve.
Beg-Lee says, "Venice in the winter is just so romantic. You can go to the Cipriani Hotel and have some Bellinis. One of the best shops there is called Ca’ Del Sole, and they sell these amazing handcrafted masks that are perfect for a New Year's Eve party."
What goes on in Palm Springs really does mirror Miami Beach. The town had a huge comeback. She says, "It is not your grandma's getaway anymore. Just two hours from LA, Palm Springs is the perfect Hollywood hotspot."
And Spain does it up for the holidays. In Madrid they celebrate for 12 full days. It is siesta and fiesta in a town that prides itself on laid-back living and top-notch eating.
But one of the kookiest places to go this holiday season is to Wayne, N.J., where there is an over-the-top shop called "Fountains of Wayne." It may not be on the vacation destination map, but people have called Wayne a local landmark for years.
