Faces to Watch
Derek, Joy, Orlando, and Rosario - if these fresh faces don't look familiar, just wait!
These hot new stars are the faces to watch in 2003.
First on our list is 25-year-old Orlando Bloom, who shot into the spotlight in "The Lord of the Rings." He says, "It was kind of a life changing experience that I feel kind of blessed to have been a part of."
Time magazine's Chris Farley keeps tabs on Hollywood’s up-and-comers. He says Bloom has hit the Hollywood bull’s-eye, landing roles opposite Johnny Depp in "The Pirates of the Caribbean" and Brad Pitt in "Troy."
Another star headed for greatness is "Men In Black 2" beauty Rosario Dawson. But Farley says Rosario’s upcoming close encounter with Spike Lee and Edward Norton in the prison drama "The 25th Hour" will really turn heads. He says, "It's a hard hitting drama that will show her acting chops to people that didn't quite get her before."
Now here's a newcomer who's already getting Oscar buzz. Farley says, "Derek Luke was discovered by Denzel Washington for his film, ‘Antwone Fisher.’"
Denzel says, "He thanked me afterwards, ‘Oh thank you for giving me the part.’ I said, ‘Don't thank me. If you hadn’t earned it, you would not have gotten it.’"
Denzel sure knows how to pick them. Rounding out our list is his "Antwone Fisher" co-star, Joy Bryant. Next up, Joy stars with "Dark Angel's" Jessica Alba in "Honey," a gritty drama about dancers striving to hit the big time. That is exactly where Farley believes Joy is headed. He says, "The fact that she can sort of show her beauty in whatever context I think will attract directors to want to cast her."
So, when Joy, Derek, Rosario, and Orlando become household names, just remember that you heard it here first.
