Midseason TV Shows
Don't touch that dial! Primetime is getting primed for a whole new batch of programs and "Extra's" got your TV guide.
"There are a couple that NBC has got in the works," says Variety's Melissa Grego, "that folks are looking at pretty closely. One is ‘Kingpin.’"
Grego is talking about TV titan Aaron Spelling's controversial "Kingpin." NBC has hopes the show will catch "Sopranos" fever, by delving into the criminal underworld of a ruthless drug trafficking family. Grego says, "It's one of the more edgy, challenging controversial topics."
One optimistic topic is "Mister Sterling," starring Josh Brolin as a young senator navigating Capitol Hill politics.
On CBS, Oliver Platt gets behind the bench in a New York courthouse on "Queens Supreme."
Over on Fox, a New York cop is dropped in London with his hyper pooch Pete in "Keen Eddie." Grego says, "It’s the first TV project from the director of ‘Tomb Raider’ and ‘Con Air,’ Simon West."
"Dragnet" is back on the beat on ABC starring "Married with Children's" Ed O'Neill as flatfoot Joe Friday.
It's back to school on the WB's "High School Reunion." And a lady will be looking for love on ABC with "The Bachelor’s" first runner-up Trista Rehn headlining "The Bachelorette." Grego says, "If ‘The Bachelorette’ is going to see a woman get down on her knees and propose to a guy, that's going to be kind of funny to see."
Supermodel Tyra Banks slips into the role of producer and judge for UPN’s "Supermodel." Grego says, "’Supermodel’ is sort of the ultimate in just cat fight reality television."
Look for some big laughs starting with some big fat Greek ones in a TV version of the movie hit. Gregos says, "It was actually commissioned as a TV series before the theatrical release of the movie."
Gregory Hines stars in the ABC comedy "Lost At Home," about a harried executive losing touch with his family.
So TV fans start the New Year right and make a resolution to tune in.
