'Narc'
It's the gritty film about the narcotics underworld. This low budget film has some of Hollywood’s heavy hitters behind it. Mega-star Tom Cruise is the film's executive producer. He says, "It has character, but it also has this wonderful kind of Greek tragedy."
In the cop drama, Ray Liotta is trying to track down drug dealers who killed his partner. His new partner in crime fighting is Jason Patric. "Narc" is already getting heavy Oscar buzz, but there is some concern about violence. Patric says, "Judging by the way kids play video games and the stuff you see on TV these days, I don't find it's overly violent. I just think it's pretty real and hits home."
Rapper Busta Rhymes plays one of the bad guys taking the rap. He says, "I really have the opportunity for the first time to experience something as physical in film as this. So it's like all a learning thing and I’m just absorbing it."
"Narc" was shot in just 28 days for roughly five million dollars. One place they couldn't scrimp was on Ray Liotta's food. He gained more than 30 pounds for the role. He says, "There was a physicality about it. So it was great in terms of eating anything you want. You know what really helps a lot too is Chinese food. Because of the soy, you get puffy. But losing it is as difficult as people say."
And playing this heavy could get Ray weighed down with awards in the spring.
