Paul Sorvino
Wednesday December 19, 2001

Actor Paul Sorvino is best known for playing the heavy hitting mob boss Pauly in “Goodfellas,” Henry Kissinger in “Nixon,” and most recently as the over protective pop on the CBS show, “That's Life.” Sorvino is a natural at playing the tough guy, but deep down he has a soft side.

Sorvino says, “I'm not happy when I'm not producing art everyday.”

When Sorvino is not acting he's also a professional opera singer, a published poet and a painter. But he says he would give it all up to be a sculptor.

Sorvino adds, “It involves everything I've got. It was an ability I had as a child and sculpting always fascinated me.”

A fascination that started 30 years ago is now an all-consuming passion. A self-taught artist, Paul now pounds the clay every day. He's produced over 100 pieces ranging from full figured boxers to busts. Paul says he approaches his art like his acting.

Sorvino says, “My preparation is exhaustive and my execution is lightening fast.”

It's his latest project that this native New Yorker is most excited about. It will be a sculpture of a New York firefighter that he intends to give to the city.

Sorviono says, “I want to make as beautiful of a sculpture I can make, showing this great heart, this great courage of these great men and women.”
