Richard Roeper
The race for the Oscar is just around the corner, so "Extra" sat down with one of the biggest critics in the business, Richard Roeper, to get his picks for the prized statuette.
Nicolas Cage is a hot prospect for a nomination in "Matchstick Men." And Russell Crowe could also be looking at an Academy Award nod for "Master and Commander."
But Tobey Maguire's once-promising "Seabiscuit" came out of the starting gate so long ago that Roeper says it is a long shot for him to be acknowledged.
These were just a few of the Oscar forecasts we got from Roeper, who is half of the hugely successful movie-review show "Ebert and Roeper," which is taped in Chicago.
Roeper also said that he thinks Bill Murray's performance in "Lost in Translation" should earn him an Oscar nomination. So should Nicole Kidman's performance in "The Human Stain."
And he says the movie "In America," about an Irish immigrant family in New York, could be the best picture he has seen this year. Roeper says, "It is not going to make $50 million its opening weekend, but it is a special movie."
