'The Cat in the Hat'

It is the latest big-screen incarnation of Hollywood's man of a thousand funny faces: the one and only Mike Myers.

And the comic brain behind "Austin Powers" and "Wayne's World" actually had trouble keeping a straight face when we sat down to talk about his latest romp in a furry cat suit.

But Myers suddenly turned serious when he revealed the secret real-life inspiration for his portrayal of the beloved Dr. Seuss character: Gwyneth Paltrow’s dad.

Gwyneth introduced Myers to her father, Bruce Paltrow. Myers says, "I made fun of him in the first five seconds."

Then the comic almost choked up as he told us that Bruce Paltrow never got to see "The Cat in the Hat" come to life onscreen. Myers says, "He died the first week of shooting, which was very sad."

But Myers says that Gwyneth's dad lives on in this mischievous and lovable new movie character. He says, "I told him about a month before and told him, ‘I’m basing my character on you.’"

This was quite a tribute to Paltrow, because Myers says that "The Cat in the Hat" is his favorite book of all time, and this was also one of his favorite characters of all time.

Now Myers hopes that "The Cat in the Hat" will bring a fond smile to Gwyneth and all Dr. Seuss fans.
