Holiday Movie Preview
Historical epics, haunting themes, and a family fare: don’t be afraid, Hollywood has something for everyone at the box office this holiday season.
Entertainment Weekly's Cindy Grisolia, who has the box office breakdown in this week's issue, says that this is the season for Tom Cruise and "The Last Samurai." She says, "I think it will be a crowd-pleasing season. With Tom Cruise, you’ve got to anticipate it being big. ‘Last Samurai’ is a big historical epic.’"
And there are many more to see with the studios releasing all of their Oscar hopefuls. Nicole Kidman has "Cold Mountain." And swashbuckling Russell Crowe may be a contender with "Master and Commander."
Jennifer Connelly is coming off her Oscar win with the dark drama, "House of Sand and Fog." And get ready for the return of that "Pretty Woman" Julia Roberts in "Mona Lisa Smile." Grisolia says, "It will be her first leading part since ‘Erin Brockovich’ and having won the Oscar."
Fantasy fans can get ready for the last film from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Return of the King." Grisolia says, "It is the final place where the films have been going, and all of the actors sort of get to have their big moments."
Looking for a family film? Head to see Eddie Murphy in "The Haunted Mansion," Mike Myers in "Cat in the Hat," and Jenna Elfman, Brendan Fraser, and Steve Martin lend their voices to "Looney Toons: Back in Action."
And from cartoons to comedy, haunted mansions to historical epics, Entertainment Weekly says everyone is sure to love Hollywood's holiday movie season.
