'8 Simple Rules'
It is the heart-wrenching first show since the sudden death of beloved star John Ritter. Sources tell "Extra" that it happens after Ritter’s character suffers a heart attack in a supermarket. Ritter’s TV wife, Katey Sagal, says, "What we come to find out is that Paul Hennessy is dead."
Tuesday night, Sagal and the kids confront their tragic loss on a special one-hour episode of "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."
Legendary guest stars Suzanne Pleshette and James Garner play the loving grandparents. And Garner tells "Extra" that the cast of this ABC sitcom is mourning like Ritter's real-life family. Garner says, "They are being very professional about it, but it sure hurt them."
On "Good Morning America," Chris Cuomo spoke to the young actresses who play Ritter's daughters on the show. They say that Ritter remains very close to their hearts.
We caught up with Ritter's real-life son Jason, who stars in the new TV show "Joan of Arcadia." Jason says his own TV family is helping him get through the pain. He says, "I just look at these people who love me, and who I love, and that does everything."
And Sagal, speaking for Ritter's real and TV families, may have summed it up best. She says, "He’s like the big umbrella of love, and we are all underneath it. We’re all together."
