'8 Mile'

He has the number one album, the top selling single, and over the weekend the prince of rap became the king of the box office. Eminem's film debut "8 Mile" wrapped itself around $54.5 million in tickets sales, making it the biggest opening ever for a drama.

But Slim Shady's path to becoming a media mogul started at real 8 Mile, a road outside Detroit that literally separates black from white. These poor neighborhoods are where a skinny kid named Marshall Mathers grew up. Emimem says, "Detroit is a different thing than New York and Los Angeles. It's a whole different world here."

This past weekend, fans from the Motor City came out in droves to support their local hero. Oscar-winning director Curtis Hanson actually used locations around Detroit for the film. Even though "8 Mile" has made Eminem a certified movie star, he hasn't lost any respect back home. One fan says, "A lot of people get famous and they forget about where they came from. He didn't."
