Pam Anderson
With fiancé Kid Rock by her side, Pam Anderson kicked off her campaign to battle hepatitis C with a bike rally fundraiser this past weekend. It's all part of Pam's new crusade: sharing her personal battle with the deadly disease.
Pam says, "When I first found out that I had hepatitis C, I was told there wasn’t a cure. That was it. This is what I was going to die of."
Now, Pam wants to educate others about the disease that doesn't have to be a death sentence. What does Pam want people to really hear about hepatitis C? She says, "That the most important thing is to be tested, and then decide on what your treatment's going to be."
Pam gave "Extra" a first look at her startling new P.S.A., hoping to alert everyone about the dangers of this disease.
Almost four million Americans are infected by the blood-born disease. Hepatitis C causes inflammation of the liver and if left untreated can be fatal. Pam says, "This is one of my lessons in life and I’m definitely not going to let it take me down."
Pam says she's met with doctors at UCLA about traditional treatment, but is now exploring other options. She says, "Right now I’m going to try everything I can to treat it naturally."
Already a strict vegan, Pam's plan is to boost her immune system through exercise, an organic diet, and an herbal and vitamin regime. She says, "I take a lot of milk thistle. I take a lot of vitamin C."
Healthy and happy, raising her two boys, and reportedly on the way to the altar with boyfriend Kid Rock, Pam's now using her fame to fight for breakthroughs in the battle against this life-threatening disease.
