Blake Trial Shooting

The television show "Celebrity Justice" was covering the hearing for Robert Blake when outside, all hell broke loose. And the images are extremely graphic.

It's a shocking scene caught by "Court TV" and "Celebrity Justice." A man with a gun opened fire on an innocent victim at a Van Nuys, Calif. courthouse. The helpless target of the attack frantically attempted to take cover behind a tree.

The victim was hit several times, but amazingly stayed on his feet and staggered away in shock. Unbelievably, the gunman calmly tried to walk away, but a cameraman tried to get somebody's attention pointing to the shooter. Then suddenly, from out of nowhere, the gunman was tackled, bringing this startling event to an end.

So who was this hero? "Extra" has learned that he was an off-duty sheriff's deputy who fearlessly jumped into action.

Brian Oxman is an attorney who has represented the Michael Jackson family. He witnessed the incident, and he heard the words exchanged between the gunman and his target. He says, "We heard someone saying, "You took my money, that's what you get."

Paramedics rushed the victim to a local hospital, and amazingly he was still conscious when they arrived.

As for Blake, there was big news in his case also. His handyman, accused of conspiracy, is off the hook. Blake will be back at the courthouse February 9th as his trail gets underway. Ironically, the shooter will also be back to answer for this vicious assault.
