Gothika
With Robert Downey Jr., Penelope
Cruz, and a haunting performance from Halle Berry, "Gothika"
is the frightening new must-see thriller. But getting a case
of the creeps filming was nothing compared to the real-life
horror that Berry experienced.
She says, "Someone broke into my house
two weeks after I moved in. And I was in the house, getting
a massage. The other spooky thing was that there was no sign
of breaking or entering, so they walked right in. Everything
is quadruple locked down now."
Berry seems to have a lock on everything
in her life. Despite her breakup with husband Eric Benet she
remains strong. Berry says, "I don't always feel powerful,
but I know that I am resilient. I've learned in life now that
no matter what happens to me, I may be down for a minute,
but I will rise."
And Berry is at the top of her game in "Gothika,"
a film so intensely frightening it gave the actress nightmares.
To disconnect from her work, she says, "I started to
do some meditation after work. I would stay about half an
hour later just to do some meditation to try to come back
to my real self."
But getting into character wasn't too
hard for Berry. She says, "I've got a lot to draw from
and real-life things that have happened all go right in there.
And I say, I am going to use this one day.'"
And that day is here: up next for Berry
is superhero "Catwoman." She says, "I'm getting
to do a lot of my own fighting. I'm able to do some of this
Catwoman' stuff that I really didn't think I'd
be able to do."
Seems there is nothing Halle Berry can't
do. She says, "I don't have much to hide. I am who I
am, and I've always been that way."
