David Gest Sues Liza Minnelli
They wed, they split, and now "Liza Beat Me!" screams from Wednesday’s New York Post, just one day after David Gest filed a $10 million lawsuit against his estranged wife Liza Minnelli.
"Extra" recently spent the day with Liza as she shot her guest appearance on the upcoming sitcom "Arrested Development." The diva seemed anything but bitter. She said, "He’s a lovely man. He really is. We are really friends. I really adore him, I do."
But upon arriving to LAX airport yesterday, Liza laughed off the lawsuit and called it, "Stupid."
In court papers, Gest claims Liza began abusing him last June in a London hotel room after allegedly downing at least one bottle of vodka. Gest claims she, "threw a lamp" at him and began, "beating him about the head and face with her fists." Gest also said that Minnelli struck him on several occasions, including during a Thanksgiving dinner.
Famed divorce attorney Raoul Felder is Gest's attorney. He wouldn't go into specifics on the case, but he told the TV show "Celebrity Justice" that coming forward wasn’t easy for his client.
He says, "Women, when they commit domestic violence, are more prone to use deadly weapons, hard objects and things like this. Obviously people are going to snicker about a man who didn't defend himself, didn't fight back. But real men don't hit and real men don't fight back."
Gest says, "Alcohol gave Minnelli remarkable force and strength."
He is now suing for $10 million to cover hospital bills and lost work, which means this pair, could have a reunion in court.
