Screening Room
In this week's Screening Room, fun facts are popping up all over the place about the stars of movies dealing with turkey, terror, and a tumultuous courtroom.
They've been great pals for 40 years, and now Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman are finally onscreen for the first time in the courtroom thriller "Runaway Jury." And Hackman nearly didn't make it to this "Jury" selection. When Joel Schumacher was slated to direct six years ago, Sean Connery was reportedly in the Hackman role.
There is no turkey for former "Dawson's Creek" cutie Katie Holmes, who turns in a fantastic performance in "Pieces of April." Her problem, however, is that she's up another creek trying to put "Dawson’s Creek" behind her. Homes says, "I haven’t really dealt with it being over yet."
A few other fun facts you might not know about Holmes: she's tall, reaching 5' 9". Holmes says, "We grow them tall in Ohio. And I’m also very funny."
Also look for Sean Hayes from "Will & Grace" in a very different role.
Oscar nominee Cate Blanchett is "Veronica Guerin," based on the true story of an Irish journalist terrorized for trying to shed light on the dark world of drugs. And keep an eye out for Irish lad and new dad Colin Farrell to make a cameo. You can thank a special lady in his life for that. Director Joel Schumacher, who is credited with discovering Ferrell, says, "He just happened to be in Dublin visiting his mother."
