Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant has kept a low profile since his court hearing on Wednesday, but Thursday night at the Lakers first home pre-season game, everyone was wondering if the embattled superstar would make an appearance on his home court.

Bryant did show up for the game and was all smiles, but he didn't play or even sit on the bench with teammates. Instead, Bryant worked out and watched the game on TV.

Teammates Shaquille O’Neal and Rick Fox weren't surprised Bryant stayed out of sight. Shaq said, "We just want him to be pain free and relax and take his time." Rick Fox added, "He will understandably be regaining his focus now that things will be set next Monday."

Monday is when a judge decides whether or not the case will go to trial. Either way, his teammates say Bryant will get through this. Shaq says, "He’s a pit bull."

Fox says, "We watch anticipating and wanting nothing but the best for his family."

But what if Bryant does go to trial? Shaq says, "I don't like to go on ‘ifs,’ but whatever happens, happens. We all just have to suck it up."

Bryant could see limited playing time in Friday night’s game, shifting his focus from the Colorado court to the basketball court.

If the case does go to trial, Bryant is expected to waive his right to a speedy trial, so he can begin a new season with the Lakers.
