'Veronica Guerin'
Cate Blanchett has taken on her toughest role yet: portraying a real life heroine. Blanchett stars in "Veronica Guerin," the true story of a crusading Irish journalist murdered in her own car.
And Blanchett knew the stakes. She says, "You have to be fearless as an actor, you have to take risks."
Fearless she was, but portraying the beloved Guerin was an unexpected emotional ride. Blanchett says, "When we got to the premiere in Dublin, I got out of the car and just this wave of nausea came over me because I thought, 'Oh my God, this cinema is filled with people who loved her, and here I am pretending to be her. What was I thinking?'"
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer knew what he was thinking when he cast Blanchett. He says, "She can become the character. It's not Cate Blanchett, it is Veronica Guerin. The best compliment she got was when Veronica's mother saw the movie and said, 'You talk like her, and you walk like her.'"
And despite being one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, Blanchett found time to become a mother two years ago. She says, "You know, people talk about having children and how difficult it must be, but really I'm in such a privileged position. He can come on set, there's down time everyday so I get to see him."
You can see this privileged mother/actress as Veronica Guerin in theaters October 17th.
