Gwyneth Paltrow
Looking beautiful in basic black, Gwyneth Paltrow arrived at the New York premiere of her new film, "Sylvia," and "Extra" was her first stop.
In "Sylvia," which co-stars Gwyneth's mom, Blythe Danner, Paltrow plays tormented poet Sylvia Plath. Gwyneth enjoyed the experience of working with her mom. She says, "For me it's like having this fantastic, wise person around."
But when "Extra" caught up with Gwyneth in London, she was relieved mom wasn't around while shooting what's becoming Hollywood’s most talked about sex scene. Gwyneth says, "It is pretty graphic. It was very difficult. I mean, I've never done a sex scene that explicit."
Gwyneth's been taking a lot of risks lately. She opened up to Diane Sawyer about past relationships with both Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt.
And this daring role is already causing Oscar buzz. But Gwyneth’s on-screen anguish reflected more than just the role. She began filming just months after losing her father, director Bruce Paltrow. She says, "I look back and I think I don’t know how I did it. I was so lucky that I was playing somebody who was in such a fragile state."
And Gwyneth says she was lucky to have her mom by her side, and boyfriend Chris Martin nearby. She says, "The people who love you encourage you to do what's right for you artistically."
"Sylvia" hits theatres October 17th.
