'Runaway Jury' It's the Hoffman and Hackman comedy hour, and only "Extra" caught up with the costars of "Runaway Jury," a drama based on John Grisham’s novel where Hackman plays a corrupt jury consultant out to sway Hoffman’s verdict.
And with a 40-year friendship under their belt, this was the first time the pair teamed up. Hackman says, "I was actually cast with him in ‘The Graduate,’ but I was fired during rehearsals."
Hackman and Hoffman began their friendship as roommates in New York. Hoffman says, "He had a kitchen floor which was the only available place to sleep next to the fridge, and I did."
And from playing house to performing at the Pasadena Playhouse, life wasn't easy for these struggling actors. Hoffman says, "He was kicked out after three months for not having any talent, which is true."
Of course all of that is history now, and finally working together was long overdue for these famous friends. Hoffman says, "It was as if we were still struggling actors emotionally and we were charged with a real strong sense of insecurity."
And when it was over, Hoffman says, "We went out and got properly drunk."
Looks like "Runaway Jury" is sure to be a runaway hit.
