'Mystic River'

It is a dream team of Hollywood heavyweights with Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Marcia Gay Harden, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, and Clint Eastwood collaborating on a project very close to their hearts.

"Mystic River" is about a group of childhood friends who come together as adults to solve a child's murder. Legendary two-time Oscar winner Clint Eastwood directed the movie the old-fashioned way. He says, "It is not about special effects. There are no visual effects, everything is real."

You would think that nothing could faze this A-list cast, but Harden admitted to "Extra" that she was in awe of her 73-year-old director. She says, "I was in love with him when he was in the TV show, ‘Rawhide.’ He was just so dreamy."

And Bacon gave us a taste of what Clint Eastwood the director sounds like. Bacon says, "Most directors say, 'Cut and action,' but he's like 'Okay guys, go ahead.'"

"Mystic River" is very intense, and after the shoots, the stars told us they were drained and depressed. So how did they unwind? Bacon says, "We got drunk and stupid."

But Robbins says it was all worth it, and he is pleased to hear the movie is generating an Oscar buzz. He says, "Let's knock wood. Let's hope that happens, but if it doesn't, I'm still tremendously proud."

It was a labor of love, and you can see these superstars at the top of their games when "Mystic River" opens on October 8th.
