'The Truth About Charlie'

It's the mystery movie that was very much a mystery to its own stars, Mark Wahlberg and Thandie Newton. "Extra" reveals "The Truth About Charlie."

Murder, suspense and romance -- "The Truth About Charlie" has an exhilarating combination of all three! In the film, Regina Lampert (played by star beauty Thandie Newton) returns to Paris to find herself in danger and her husband, Charlie, dead. Enter Joshua Peters (Mark Wahlberg), a charming stranger who's all too eager to help. Thandie describes Whalberg's character thus: "He's a sweet, gentle guy. But at the same time you're aware of this strength and masculinity."

The film is a remake of 1963's "Charade," starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. For the remake, director Jonathan Demme, of "Silence of the Lambs" fame, kept his stars in the dark about many of the plot twists.

"That was weird at first, but obviously became very helpful to the film as a whole and to my job," says Wahlberg about Demme's unconventional methods.

For Thandie Newton, her role in the film marks her second project opposite a leading Hollywood hunk. Before Wahlberg, she was on a romantic mission with Tom Cruise in "Mission Impossible 2." Her thoughts? She says, "It's just like a nightmare for my poor husband!"

And the nightmare continues on screen, as Thandie Newton and Mark Wahlberg try to figure out "The Truth About Charlie"...before it's too late.
