Mariah Carey's New Video
It's the powerful new video from comeback queen Mariah Carey. The former diva-in-distress is now celebrating a triumphant new beginning in her life with her latest hit, "Through the Rain." Mariah explains, "I made it through the rain. That's the concept of the song."
"Extra" recently caught up with the sultry songbird on the set of her video, where we learned the five-minute mini-movie is actually a loving message to Mariah's parents.
Director Dave Myers, pretty much the Steven Spielberg of music videos, explains he and Mariah came up with the concept together. It tells the story of Mariah's parent's inter-racial relationship. Mariah's mother is played by Jamie Lynn Sigler of "The Sopranos," while J.D. Williams of "The Wire" plays her father. Myers says, "Her mother basically eloped from her family and engaged in an interracial relationship that spawned Mariah."
Mariah's father passed away last summer, on the fourth of July, making her touching tribute even more poignant. She says, "It's not just like, I’m strong, I can do this. We all really can if we have faith. That's the message of the song."
