Winona Ryder in Court

A smiling Winona Ryder, sporting a short new hairdo, walked into Beverly Hills court on Tuesday. Inside, she got some good news: the drug charges against her have been dropped and her trial date has been set for a week from tomorrow.

Ryder's lawyer, Mark Geragos, says his client is ready to go. He says, "Winona has told me she wants to go to court. She wants a chance to get justice."

Ryder will finally get the chance to tell her side of the story, what happened last December when she was arrested for shoplifting at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.

It's been 10 tough months since her arrest. And now, for the first time, we are learning how Winona Ryder has been spending her time while waiting for her trial to finally begin.

In the upcoming issue of Us magazine, Winona's parents break their silence. They both feel their daughter is being treated unfairly.

Us magazine executive editor Janice Min tells "Extra" that Winona has been trying to stay out of the limelight, spending most of her time with their family in San Francisco. Min says, "She's spent a lot of time at home, renting videos, going to movies, and reading a lot of books. She's been reading a lot of poetry and novels."

Now the agonizing wait is almost over and the 30-year old actress will fight for her freedom in a court of law.
