LL Cool J
Old school is back in session and "Extra" is in the house as movie star LL Cool J returns to his rapping roots. We caught up with LL Cool J in New York as he held his first concert here in eight years.
Back in the late 90's, LL said he was going to retire from rap to focus on acting. But even after starring in blockbusters including "Any Given Sunday" and "Charlie's Angels," LL Cool J is about to release his tenth album, appropriately titled "10." He says, "I wanted to put together a real feel good record. I wanted it to be filled with a lot of positive energy."
Making good on his recent promise to keep foul language out of his music, LL says his new album is a clean and uplifting hip-hop record. The first single, "Luv U Better," already a hit, is about treating women with respect.
Surviving an incredible 18 years in the "here today, gone tomorrow" world of hip-hop, LL attributes his longevity to clean living and positive thinking. He says, "I don't get high. I don't do drugs. I'm not into that. I want to do push ups and sit ups and drink a big glass of water and feel great."
At 34, LL looks fitter than most athletes and is getting ready to star in the big screen version of the 1970's classic cop show "S.W.A.T" with Samuel L. Jackson. But being the cool guy that he is, LL swears he doesn't know the secret to success. He says, "If I had the secret I’d be on the corner right now trying to sell it."
