Radio Music Awards
Monday October 29, 2001

Sin City hit a high note Friday night, playing host to some of the hottest names and freshest faces at the 2001 Radio Music Awards co-hosted by Christina Aguilera. Only "Extra" got a behind-the-scenes look at the live rock fest.

From 'NSync's Lance and Joey to Elton John and Mariah Carey who accepted the award for Most Requested Artist. Mariah says she's still thrilled every time she catches her tunes on the radio. She says, “I'm a fan of radio, I would have been a DJ had I not been a singer."

All these chart-topping acts agreed, number one on their play list is Elton John. Elton was the man of the hour, taking home the Legend Award presented by Robert Downey, Jr.

The three-hour telecast didn't go off without a hitch. Reportedly a bomb threat was made during the show. It was a false alarm, but it did raise concerns stars have for their security since September 11th. ‘NSync’s Lance Bass says, “I think everyone's a little more conscious of everything."

But singers like Nelly Furtado and Stevie Nicks believe music will continue to bring the country together. Nelly says, “It's important, creativity heals the soul."

Stevie says, “My mother said, ‘You are the USO right now. You are Rita Hayworth. You are out there taking people away for a minute, and if you can do that Stevie, don't let them beat you."
