FDNY Fashions

Move over Polo. Catch you later, Calvin. The newest fashion trend isn't from DKNY; it's from the FDNY. Teri Agins, senior fashion writer at the Wall Street Journal says, “New York is the fashion capital of the country, something like this really catches on.”

Looks like it already caught on. Everyone from poppers and hoppers at the VH1 concert for New York, to trendsetters and rockers are wearing miles of the new style. Even New York’s fire commissioner Thomas Von Essen applauds the apparel. He says, “It's been a horrible time and if people can show some appreciation by wearing something that says Fire Department, we'll take it as a sign of appreciation.”
Tees and tops, shirts and bottoms are all the rage. Designer Betsey Johnson has her very own line too. She says, “All the proceeds will go to the Trade Center relief center.”
Agins says, “I think the firemen really have attained a new level of heroism in the eyes of most New Yorkers. So this is one way for people to show their patriotism.”
The Mets and Yanks were ahead of the curve when they traded in their caps for hero’s hats. New York’s fire commissioner was on hand for the grand opening of the Fire Zone Shop at Bloomingdale’s, an entire section dedicated to New York’s Bravest. Von Essesn says, “The profits will be used to educate children and senior citizens about fire safety.”
