Ben Affleck

Ben is back and talking to "Extra" about his first big project since his highly publicized summer stint in rehab for alcohol abuse. He says, “If I wanted to be controlling about my image or worried about how I came across, this would not be the right thing to do.”

With up and coming writer/director Pete Jones at his side, Ben wanted only to talk about “Project Greenlight,” a 13 episode documentary series debuting on HBO in December, chronicling the making of an upcoming independent film called "Stolen Summer." As executive producers of "Stolen Summer," Ben and his longtime friend and writing partner Matt Damon are featured in the revealing behind-the-scenes documentary.
Ben tells “Extra,” “We put ourselves out there, we look like idiots sometimes on the show. We lose our tempers, we look foolish, we get into arguments, Matt and I pick the wrong ideas to support.”
Ironically, as Ben and Matt will star in a reality show about filmmaking, their eagerly awaited reality project "The Runner" has been taken off the schedule at ABC. Matt and producing partner Chris Moore say ABC was concerned that now is not an appropriate time for a staged manhunt. Matt says, “‘The Runner’ had nothing to do with the show. It just had to do with external circumstances, and in light of those it's the last thing we're going to complain about.”
As for Ben, he has kept a low profile since entering alcohol rehab last July. He did make it to Damon's 31st birthday party held at a New York nightspot a few weeks ago, but Ben hasn't gone public with any relationships since he broke up with Jerry Seinfeld's ex Shoshanna Lonstein earlier this year. It appears that for now, work is the love of his life and getting to teach rookie writer/directors like Pete Jones about the ups and downs of show business. It appears his protégé Pete is learning fast.
Pete says, “I got a paycheck for directing a movie where I didn't think that was going to be possible. I even get to hang out with superstars like Ben and Matt.”
