Billy Bob Thornton
Monday October 22, 2001

Billy Bob Thornton’s latest film is "The Man Who Wasn't There," written and directed by the Coen brothers of "Fargo" fame. It was shot entirely in black and white. He says, “I think all actors want to play a part like this."

Billy Bob, promoting the movie in the film noir style in which it was shot, plays small town 1940's barber Ed Crane. It’s a role that seems tailor made. Thornton says, “That very internal, sort of screwed up, lonely, melancholy guy … I've definitely got that aspect, there's no question about it. I can be a very solitary person."

Maybe so, but his very public marriage to Angelina Jolie and their sometimes bizarre relationship keeps the eccentric actor very much in the spotlight. Billy Bob is also getting heavy play at the box office in "Bandits" with Bruce Willis. He steals the show as a neurotic bank robber.

That's not all. He recently recorded an album of original music, including a song dedicated to his wife. Life is good for the Academy Award winning actor. He says, “It is a great period. I'm really proud of it."

He’s even prouder of Angelina’s new role as a U.N. goodwill ambassador and her commitments to helping refugees around the world. He says, “I love her for what she's doing. She's a kind person."

And that, Billy Bob says, is a lot more interesting than Hollywood.
