Patricia Cornwell

Deadly acts of bio-terrorism aimed at unsuspecting victims - until it really happened, it sounded like a sinister plot ripped from the pages of a crime thriller. Patricia Cornwell says, "Biological terrorism is something I actually addressed in Unnatural Exposure, which is kind of eerie."

Cornwell, a best-selling author, wrote Unnatural Exposure three years ago when fears of anthrax and possible wide spread exposure to germs were still only fiction. She says, “I wouldn't want to be writing that book now where we have a mutant strain of Smallpox that someone is using to commit homicide.
Homicide is Cornwell's stock in trade. Her popular, nail-biting thrillers feature medical examiner Kay Scarpetta on the trail of an unsolved murder. Cornwell says let's not forge that September 11th was one huge homicide. She says, “You have this gang of ruthless psychopathic killers that strike randomly at people minding their own business."
As a former reporter and medical examiner technician, Cornwell was drawn to Ground Zero to see for herself the most gruesome crime scene of all.
Her next book is the mystery novel, "Isle of Dogs", an amusing look at law enforcement. A book she believes is the right book at the right time. She says, “I think people very much need to laugh right now."
Quite a departure from the grim and somber stories that made her career.
