Emmy Preview
Friday
October 5, 2001
There has been a lot of talk about what the stars will and won't be wearing to this Sunday’s Emmy awards. But “Extra” has learned everyone has been asked to carry one important accessory: picture ID.
|
Yes, they are among the most recognized faces on television, but "Extra" has learned everyone on the red carpet will be carded. Bryce Zabel, CEO of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, says, “Security was a huge issue for us from the very beginning."
Bryce says that from swat teams to metal detectors, to making the airspace above L.A.'s Shrine auditorium a no fly-zone, they aren't taking any chances this weekend. Zabel says, “The security level at the Emmy telecast this year rivals that of a presidential visit."
But even with the red carpet on red alert, the stars that gathered at a pre-Emmy reception say they're ready to walk the line.
Frankie Muniz says, "I think it's good that we are actually continuing doing the Emmys because we are getting back to normal and not letting them get to us."
Bradley Whitford says, “"I’m more frightened of theater critics than anything that might happen at the Emmys."
But the big question is what will the stars be wearing? Celebs have been asked to tone down their duds from flashy formal to dressy business attire, a change that doesn't thrill BCBG designer Max Azria. He says, “If you change your attitude today, it means you lost. If you keep who you are, it means you win."
Relax Max. "Everybody Loves Raymond" mom Patricia Heaton says dressing down won't be in style on Emmy night 2002. She says, “Next year we'll be back to being fabulous."
