Emmy's Increase Security
Thursday October 4, 2001

Producers are rolling out the red carpet for television's highest honors as they put the finishing touches on this weekend's Emmy awards. But which big stars will be walking down the carpet this Sunday?

Jim Chabin, president of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, says all of the nominees and presenters are finally confirmed, including Martin Sheen, Kelsey Grammer, and Robert Downey Jr. Chabin says, “I think that by Sunday you'll find a number of actors who want to talk to the press and share their feelings with their fans."

But many stars, including some of the cast from "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City" won't attend the L.A. ceremony in person. Instead, they will be live, via satellite from New York.

However, the Academy is finding out that the big apple is costing big bucks. The Emmy’s are a million dollars over budget. Part of the hefty bill has been paying for added security. Chabin says, “Security is going to be enormous."

In fact, all Hollywood events are on guard these days. The red carpet at Wednesday night's premiere of "My First Mister" was clad with cops and metal detectors.

While the Emmy show will be toned down this year, it will no doubt be a night to remember.
