in Court
Tuesday
October 2, 2001
Actress Rebecca Gayheart was guest starring on last week's premiere of NBC’s “Inside Schwartz.” This week she's starring in her own real life drama.

In June, Gayheart was traveling on a Los Angeles street when the actress was involved in a tragic accident. When the car in front of her stopped, Gayheart went around it striking nine-year-old pedestrian Jorge Cruz Jr. He died the next day.
Los Angeles city prosecutor Deborah Ramirez says, “Miss Rebecca Gayheart has been charged with vehicular manslaughter as a misdemeanor not as a felony."
Ramirez says if Gayheart is convicted, the former “Beverly Hills 90210” actress could face one year in jail.
People Magazine's Peter Castro says, “Rebecca is devastated by the accident and this is all she can think about."
Celebrity Justice has learned that noted attorney Harland Braun, who represents Robert Blake, will also defend the former Noxzema model. Braun says his client is being targeted because of her celebrity. He says, “They bend over backwards to makes sure she gets the harshest treatment possible'."
The prosecutor denies that. Gayheart has sent her sympathies to the boy's family and even paid for the funeral. Now her immediate future will be decided in court.
