Jen and Ben: Rumor Control
They called off the wedding, and they may have called it quits. The latest question surrounding the Ben and Jen separation is, does Britney Spears have eyes for Ben?
Britney has been a fan for years and sparked suspicion when she made the trip to Santa Barbara despite the cancellation of the ceremony. Then, reports say the pop princess headed for Vegas after hearing Ben was there.
But there is no truth behind the rumor. Britney was already scheduled to perform in Sin City at the Palms Casino Hotel, owned by Britney's pal George Maloof.
Meanwhile, Jennifer remains on South Beach hitting the surf, swimming, and sunning over at her own Miami Beach mansion.
While friends say Lopez is devastated, Ben is said to be doing fine. "Extra" learned he and brother, Casey, went to see Leona Ness perform on Monday night's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." The singer, whose new album hits stores Tuesday, stopped by "Extra's" studios and said she was flattered by the appearance. Ness says, "He’s a friend of a friend. It was nice of him to come by."
And Ben's Saturday excursion to an LA restaurant is raising eyebrows. The actor was spotted eating with three women, one who looks to be quickly grabbing Ben's hand. So who is the girl?
She's Chay Carter, Ben's assistant. And upon closer inspection, they are not holding hands. So while it's reported that it was Ben who called it off, what caused the split?
Last year Ben's mom seemed thrilled about Jennifer. But Us Weekly's Carolyn Shafer says she could be one factor in the decision to call off the wedding. Shafer says, "Ben’s mom, Chris, was very worried about Ben marrying Jennifer. She was afraid that he would be living his life in a fishbowl."
Now fans will have to wait to see if these stars live their lives apart.
