Emmy After Parties

The Governor's Ball is an Emmy institution and this year's guest of honor was the show’s host: Conan O’Brien.

But this is just the first stop on the Emmy party train. "Extra" was at Maestros at Beverly Hills where "The West Wing" and those "Friends" doubled their pleasure with two times the reason to celebrate.

Martin Sheen carried a lucky charm, but he says "The West Wing" won for the third straight year because of creator and writer Aaron Sorkin. Jon Spencer admits that most of the cast members thought they'd lose out to "Six Feet Under." He said, "We thought it might not be ours. We're no longer the new boys on the street."

In fact, Spencer was so surprised that he cut his hand squeezing the Emmy trophy to tightly. And his fellow cast member Alison Janney had both hands full after winning a Best Actress award.

Also celebrating was David Schwimmer as "Friends" won its first Emmy for Best Comedy. He told "Extra," "It's awesome. It's pretty amazing. Everyone's pretty stunned."

At the HBO party, it was another star-studded affair with Steven Spielberg, Christian Slater, Kelly Osbourne, Kristin Davis, and most of the cast of "Six Feet Under." And even though the show lost out to "The West Wing," no one here was feeling down, especially show star Frances Conroy. She said, "People come up constantly to tell us they love the show. That's the best award possible."

Ellen DeGeneres, last year's Emmy host, raved about the job Conan did. She said, "I hope he gets attention, positive attention, because he was good."

Just down the street here at Morton’s, the folks at Fox came down to congratulate their freshman hits. From Bernie Mac, Michael Chiklis of "The Shield," and Kiefer Sutherland of "24" fame, Fox was getting down and celebrating some first year breakout hits.

Bernie Mac was glowing after his show took home an Emmy, but he told "Extra" that he never thinks about awards. He said, "You do what you do and you don't think about it. That's what makes it sweet."

Kiefer Sutherland says he got nervous before his show took home an award. And Michael Chiklis says he couldn't have won on his own. He said, "None of this would have happened without my wife."

From one end of Hollywood to another, it was a night Hollywood raised a toast to each other.
