Toronto Film Festival
While the eyes of the world were on Ground Zero last year, stars were stranded north of the border at the Toronto Film Festival. Now, the impact of 9/11 is still being heard. Pierce Brosnan says, "It is shocking still, and will forever remain so."
David E. Kelley adds, "The reality is we're still sorting things out a year later. I don't look at it as ‘that was then this is now.’"
Dennis Quaid is promoting his new movie "Far From Heaven," which began filming in New York a few short weeks after 9/11. He says, "It felt good to be there and to be working in spite of what had happened … It was something that affected us all. But it had great emotional impact to be there and see the state it was in."
In Toronto, the anniversary of the attack will be marked with a star-filled and hopeful look forward. Toronto has truly become the Hollywood of the north with some of the biggest stars and studios previewing what we will be seeing this fall.
At the premiere of "Frieda," Salma Hayek was warmly welcomed by a throng of fans, including Dustin Hoffman. Hayek had to beat out the likes of Madonna to nab the role of this revolutionary Mexican artist. She says, "I think it's important to make this story about this woman who had the courage to be unique."
The family drama "Evelyn" was a unique choice for "James Bond" star Pierce Brosnan. He says, "It's time to change, it's time to move on. It's time to do a bit of acting."
Which is what all these actors want after a year of worry, to move on to a safe year of work.
