Women of Fall Movies

Say goodbye to the boys of summer and say hello to the ladies of the fall: Julia, Renée, Meg, Nicole, Sharon, and Uma.

From Julia Roberts and Halle Berry to Nicole Kidman and Renée Zellweger, box-office expert Paul Dergarabedian says this fall is all about girl power. He says, "It's about getting noticed, about doing work that's good, and critically acclaimed."

Sharon Stone will kick off the season with her return in the thriller "Cold Creek Manor," her first film in three years. And fans will get a one-two punch of Sharon when she rolls on to "The Practice" in October.

The Oscar buzz is already starting for Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, as a troubled janitor who strikes up a down-and-dirty affair with Anthony Hopkins in "The Human Stain." Dergarabedian says, "This is the season when we find most of our Oscar contenders."

Another contender is Nicole's other fall outing, the Civil War novel turned film "Cold Mountain," with Renée Zellweger. Dergarabedian says, "They bring so much to the table. I think for Miramax this is going to be one of their bigger films."

And it's an even bigger film for Renée. She says, "It's one of my favorite books. I love this book, I love the story, I love the character."

Oscar winner Julia Roberts goes back to school this fall as an inspirational art teacher in "Mona Lisa Smile," while Halle Berry's wielding an axe in the twisted horror flick "Gothika" with Penélope Cruz.

Fall also brings the return of Hollywood sweetheart Meg Ryan, this time in an erotic thriller, "In the Cut." And Uma Thurman reunites with her "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino for the quirky assassin tale "Kill Bill: Volume 1."

So, if you've got time to kill, what better place than the movies.
