Rob Lowe
Rob Lowe is going to have his hands full this fall. He’s starring in primetime TV and big time politics, right alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. Rob Lowe speaks for the first time about his decision to join the Terminator's campaign for governor.
"Extra" stopped by the set of Lowe's new NBC legal drama called "The Lyon's Den" to talk about this executive decision. And Rob told "Extra" why he’s backing up Arnold. Rob says, "He’s motivating and energizing people in the state that haven’t been interested in politics in many, many years."
Lowe has a long history of political activism. He campaigned for Michael Dukakis in 1988 and as an eight-year old, he set up a Kool-Aid stand to raise money for George McGovern. Rob says, "I think I raised all of seven dollars for McGovern—that’s why he lost so badly."
But why is this lifelong Democrat switching party’s to work for Arnold? Rob says, "People want a born leader. I know when I walk into a set, I want to know who the director is. I don’t want to guess."
On "The Lyon's Den," Lowe is the undisputed leader of the show; he’s not only the star but also executive producer. He says, "It’s a happy set. Everyone is really happy to be here."
Lowe says he wants the show to be unique, but it will have some similarities to his last big hit, "The West Wing." He says, "Both shows celebrate the spoken word. And both shows are about characters and hopefully, you fall in love with these people."
By October Lowe should know if he has a hit on his hands, in the ratings and at the polls.
