Arnold's Friend Speaks Out

The Terminator is getting some surprising new muscle from an old friend to help his bid for the governorship of California. It’s an enthusiastic endorsement from none other than TV’s "Incredible Hulk," Lou Ferrigno. He says, "I think he’s going to do well. I think he’d be a great governor."

Lou Ferrigno was Arnold's archrival in "Pumping Iron." In the 1977 bodybuilding documentary, Arnold does everything he can to get the best of Lou. Lou says, "He's my idol and I always wanted to defeat my idol."

But Lou says that was then, and this is now. He’s 100 percent behind Arnold's goal to be governor, and says his friend will have his vote. "I think if he does a great job, why not?"

Lou told "Extra" he's furious over an interview he did for an article about Arnold in this week's Newsweek. When discussing Arnold's bodybuilding days, the article says that he was, "doing anything to win, including steroids." But Lou says he was misquoted. "Everything got twisted around. I never mentioned taking steroids. That's his personal business."

Lou also faults those making an issue out of Arnold's sharing a marijuana cigarette in "Pumping Iron." Lou says, "When it comes to being governor, I don't think I'd be concerned about smoking a joint 30 years ago."

Lou's not the only star for Schwarzenegger; other familiar faces might enlist in Arnie’s army. Robert Duvall says, "I think the office might need a little juice as far as personality goes, so he certainly has that."

Michelle Rodriguez says, "He seems to really genuinely care like a big teddy bear, and he's got a Democratic wife, so why not go for him?"

So Arnold clearly is winning the war of good will in Hollywood. The final battle is for California voters in October.
