MTV Video Music Awards
Britney is a triple threat, Eminem can snag six, ‘N Sync can swipe three, and Shakira is a fan favorite. The countdown has begun to the 2002 Video Music Awards. For an inside look at the hip-hop hopefuls and the new music nominees, we hooked up with Gideon Yago and Iann Robinson of MTV news.
The battle for Best Male Video figures to come down to Elton John, Eminem and Nelly. Iann says, "I'm going to say its going to Nelly."
Gideon adds, "I think this should go to Elton John. The look of that video, I thought it was great."
Best Female Video pits pop princes Britney Spears against sexy Shakira. Our experts say look for hip shaking Shakira to walk away with the award. But they also have personal favorites. Gideon says, "My pick is Britney Spears. She's lathered up and she's not wearing a lot of clothing in that video."
And the race is on for Best Dance Video. Keep Kylie Minogue in your head for that award. While Best Hip-Hop Video is a crowded category with Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule nominated for their collaboration "I'm Real." But the winner just might be Ja Rule and Ashanti for "Always On Time."
According to Gideon and Iann, there is no competition for the winner of the Best R&B video. Gideon says, "I don't think anyone’s going to upset Aailyah in that category because she died shooting that video."
But the grand prize is Video of the Year. There are six contenders including ‘N Sync, The White Stripes, and Eminem. Our experts say Marshal Mathers has the edge. Gideon says, "Obviously the front runner on this one is going to be Eminem because he's performing at our show and the kids just love his records."
Iann adds, "He's going to take everything. I wouldn't be surprised if Eminem didn't win Best Female Video."
You can find out who lands the "moon men" this Thursday on MTV’s Video Music Awards.
